Born in the Bronx and raised on Long Island, Mr. Kutner grew up the eldest of eleven children. He attended several Catholic schools, including the prestigious Regis High School and Iona College (now Iona University), while playing competitive college basketball and obtaining a dual-degree in Political Science & Philosophy.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Harry H. Kutner, Sr., he enlisted in the armed forces shortly after graduating in 1969. He served as an officer in the Marines for two years during the Vietnam War. After retiring from our country’s service in 1971, Harry became a NY State Parkway Police Trooper, working as a member of law enforcement for four years.
And then in 1971, following again in the footsteps of his father, Harry entered law school. After completing a semester at Notre Dame University, he returned to New York to finish his degree at Fordham University in 1973. With his admittance to the bar in 1974, Harry became the second Kutner, Esq. with three more brothers to follow soon after him.
At the request of his late brother Jay, Harry began his law practice at his father’s firm Kutner & Gurlides, eventually joined by his brother Stephen. After his father was elected to the bench of the Supreme Court, he founded his own firm which now enters its 48th year of continued service.
In that time, Harry has practiced law in a wide variety of specialized areas with many other associates at the top of their field. He has also passed on his expertise to numerous interns and law students who have benefited their own experience working with and learning from him over the years.
In his spare time, Harry enjoys spending time with his family, which now includes seven grandchildren, exploring new wineries and various construction projects, riding his bike, and researching his family’s history.
